I always knew I wanted to be a lawyer and run a business.I decided to combine the two by establishing my own firm in Asia.

I spent the last year of my law program in exchange at the National University of Singapore and I am enrolled in several courses on the law of Singapore and Asia. After my graduation from McGill and my admission to the Bar of New York,I started working for a British company in Singapore in the middle of the Asian financial crisis of the late 90s.And then I moved to Guangzhou,Guangdong Province,China,in 2003.

After three in a Chinese company I founded HJM Asia Law & Co in 2006,a firm that works primarily with mid-sized companies wishing to do business in Asia. We advise them on their corporate and commercial projects,as well as human resources and intellectual property.

In 2007,our firm has opened an office in Singapore. This is where, for reasons of transparency and legal tax benefits,we help our clients establish a headquarters in Singapore before embarking on other Asian markets such as China.Present in both Singapore and China,we represent international clients in their average size merger and acquisition of intellectual property and cross-border transactions across Asia.

I grew up in a family business - my father ran a company that operated factories manufacturing niche products, starting some, buying others,etc..- And thus very young,I learned to assess situations from a business perspective,to create opportunities and to develop a specialized practice.I experienced the typical ups and downs of a family business and I probably read more books on management and audit reports and sales than any other child of my age.It is not a coincidence that my brother also became an entrepreneur, besides being an engineer.Together we have three companies in China,in addition to the firm.

As an associate director of the office,I have always sought to establish a niche practice that can differentiate ourselves from major British and Singaporean firms in the region. After 15 years of business in Asia,we are able to leverage our experience we have developed a process that business people understand, despite the challenges they face when doing business in Asia.We believe in giving every customer with practical solutions that meet their needs, while protecting its interests.

We’re looking in London, around March 2007. It may be that a large corporate /professional services co has a venue/spare space which we could use/adapt and host the event at theirs. Do you know any that may be suitable? Know anyone I could call and start asking the right questions?
